The library wants to support our young readers between the ages of 6 - 12 over the summer months with our Candy Land Summer Reading Program! Join us for sweet treats—and even sweeter fun—all summer long!
Here's how you can participate!
Peppermint Punch Card
The main goal of the Summer Reading Program is just that: reading! Come into the library and sign up for your Peppermint Punch Card, and then earn stamps throughout the summer! There are lots of ways to earn stamps on your Punch Card, which you’ll want to do, because only a full card (25 stamps) can be exchanged for a ticket to the Candy Land Summer Reading Program Wrap-Up Party!
Children aged 6 – 12 can join the Summer Reading Program and sign-up for a Peppermint Punch Card at any point between July 4 – August 11, 2023. Peppermint Punch Cards will remain at the library to ensure they don’t accidentally get lost! For every applicable activity or task, participants will receive one (1) stamp on their punch card. 25 stamps must be earned to exchange the Punch Card for a ticket to the Wrap-Up Party.
There are several ways to earn stamps! One stamp will be earned for each of the following:
- Visit the library
- Borrow two books
- Attend Tween Zone
- Attend LEGO Club
- Enter the candy guessing game (max 1 stamp)
- Play the life-size Candy Land game at the library!
- Take a Take & Make kit (max 1 stamp per month)
- Spend 5 minutes at the library reading a book
- Share a picture with the library of you reading at home—or on vacation!
Unless otherwise stated, a stamp will be earned for each individual activity completed (eg. if you visit the library three times a week, that’s three stamps!). To share pictures of you reading at home or on vacation, please send them via email to circulation@calmarpubliclibrary.ca
You can also earn bonus stamps by borrowing certain types of books!
- Borrow a chapter book
- Borrow a non-fiction book
The Candy Land Summer Reading Program’s Wrap-Up Party will be happening on August 11, 2023 at 1:30PM. It is the library’s way of celebrating the achievements of all our avid summer readers! There will be fun, games, and even a cotton candy machine!
Sweet Treats
Earn a stamp on your Lollipop Tree Tracker card for every book you borrow. For every 5 books borrowed, you will receive a lollipop from our lollipop tree!
Candy Guessing Game
Take a look at our giant jar of candies and guess how many there are inside! The closest guess (without going over) wins the whole jar!
Life-Size Candy Land Game
The Library has transformed into a life-size game of Candy Land to play with your family and friends!
